Lady Banks Rose

The Lady Banks Rose is just one variety of rose available. These flowers are quite easy when it comes to growing, especially in warmer climates. Their blossoms are rather small when it comes to roses and they are usually either yellow or white. Although the blossoms are on the small side the shrub itself can get very large. These shrubs live a long time and can grow to massive proportions. The largest rose bush in the world is found in Tombstone Arizona and is none other than the Lady Banks species. There is actually a 2008 festival being planned to celebrate this rose bush.

This species is actually native to China, and can be found in mountainous regions and various provinces like Yunnan and Sichuan to name only a couple. One thing you will find rather unique about this type of rose is its lack of thorns. Stronger stems may have a few prickly thorns although most do not. The rose got its name from the wife of Sir Joseph Banks, a prominent botanist for whom the Banks Peninsula was named. These roses are delicate yet hardy, and decorate most any landscape with their stunning beauty.

This rose can be called somewhat of a rambler because of how it covers ground. Not only can it get tall but it can get wide. You may need to prune these roses on a regular basis to keep them under control. If you are an avid gardener who loves different types of roses you cannot go wrong with the Lady Banks variety. This flower may not be as traditional as the long-stemmed red rose or as romantic as the fragrant tea rose but it has its own special charm.
