Drying Rose Bouquet
If you have a bouquet of roses you want to preserve, why not dry it? Drying rose bouquet arrangements allows you to save them as keepsakes for years to come. If you have never dried a floral arrangement or bouquet before you will be surprised how easy it actually is. There is a method that works quite well for bouquets which is called sand drying. The first step is to reinforce your bouquet with floral tape if necessary before beginning the drying process.
Next, insert floral wire into the stem and up through the head of the flower. The end should be bent into a hook over each blossom and pulled down. This actually works to help secure the blossom to the stem while drying. Another method of securing the blossoms is to paint the bottom of each petal with a toothpick dabbed in floral glue then press it to the base so the head of the flower will not come unattached. Once the glue is dry or the wires are all inserted it is time to begin drying your floral bouquet.
You will need a box in which sand can be poured and your flowers can be held upright in the sand. The sand should cover the entire bouquet including the petals and should be poured so it reaches every crevice. The box should be placed in a warm, bright location. This will ensure the roses retain their color as they dry. It takes anywhere from one to four weeks to properly dry a bridal bouquet. After the time has elapsed gently pour the sand out to reveal your dried bouquet. There are other methods of drying floral arrangements but the sand method is probably the best choice for bouquets.
When drying rose bouquet arrangements, you may want to buy a spray gloss that can be applied to the finished product for a shinier appearance. Or, you can keep the roses natural. Your dried bouquet can be displayed in your home or packed away in for safekeeping. Some brides give their dried bouquets to their daughters and/or granddaughters as a family heirloom. Your dried roses can be displayed with greenery or on their own. You are sure to love the romantic look and durability of your sand dried bouquet.
